(ABC 6 News) – Third grade students at Kasson-Mantorville are getting a glimpse into fine arts careers, as part of the district’s “Immersive Experiences” program.

Students participated in activities with professional artists from across southeastern Minnesota, taking a glimpse at art, journalism, storytelling, dance, drama and music.

“Some of them have actual tangible things that they are making,” said Jennifer Kujath, a K-8 high protentional interventionist with KM Elementary. “And maybe that will just be a memory, too, that they will remember those days. Or, maybe, it will be something that will spark their interest and they will investigate it further and go on in life and do something in that field.”

This is the second of a five-part series of experiences designed to give students opportunities for a variety of career exploration.

“Just to get out there and show them how important art is. Especially the kids that, maybe, have a hard time sitting still,” said Angie Severson, the executive director of Miss Angie’s Place, a community art center in Pine Island. “You give them a paint brush, or something tactile that they can feel, and they just absolutely love it they will sit there for hours.”

The experiences are provided by both local businesses and community leaders.
