(ABC 6 News) – Temperatures are dropping and the United Way of Freeborn county is hosting its annual winter gear drive.
Individuals can drop off any used or new winter gear in these big white boxes, which can be found in places around Albert Lea like Mayo Clinic, Hy-Vee, and the YMCA.
United Way of Freeborn County says they usually serve around 100 households, but they’ve seen an increased demand this season due to inflation.
“With the price of gas, with the price of groceries, all of that — it creates a picture where it sometimes can be really difficult. We all know that kids grow really fast. And if you have a family of four, four children, that can add up very quickly,” said Executive Director Erin Haag.
There is no income or residency verification requirements.
If you or someone you know is in need of winter outerwear, you can stop by the United Way office during one of their distribution days throughout November and December.
