Vehicle sparks garage, house fire in rural Albert Lea, injuring 1
(ABC 6 News) – A man suffered minor injuries in a garage and house fire in rural Albert Lea on Wednesday night.
According to Albert Lea Fire Rescue, at approximately 9:11 p.m., crews were dispatched to a large garage on fire at 614 Krikava Road.
Upon arrival, fire crews found the fire had spread from the garage into the garage attic space and attached home. The residents had evacuated safely with one homeowner sustaining minor injuries to his face. Fire crews also rescued a cat.
Officials say the homeowner had been working on a vehicle in the garage when it started on fire before spreading to the rest of the garage and then home.
Estimated damages total $220,000.
Albert Lea Fire Rescue was assisted at the scene by the Freeborn County Sheriff’s Office, Glenville and Conger Fire Departments, and Mayo Clinic Ambulance.
The Minnesota State Fire Marshal is assisting with the investigation.
