Vice President Harris to visit St. Cloud bus manufacturing facility Thursday
(ABC 6 News) – Vice President Kamala Harris is scheduled to visit St. Cloud Thursday, where she is expected to highlight the Biden Administration’s investment in electric vehicles.
The Vice President plans to talk about the Biden Administration’s economic plan at New Flyer, the largest heavy-duty bus manufacturer in North America, owned by NFI Group, Inc., which is a company leading the switch to zero-emission buses. New Flyer employs about 800 people.
So far, the company says they have zero-emission buses in service today with 17 of the 25 largest North American transit agencies and with another 100 cities globally. They say their electric vehicles have traveled over 20 million miles throughout the United States and Canada and over 80 million internationally.
New Flyer provides mobility solutions, including buses, charging infrastructure, service, and spare parts to transit agencies. New Flyer actively supports over 35,000 heavy-duty transit buses currently in service, of which 8,600 are powered by electric motors and battery propulsion and 1,900 are zero-emission.
Harris is expected to speak at 1:00 p.m. about how funding for electric vehicles is creating jobs through the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act signed in 2021.
The last time Harris was in Minnesota was last October, when she visited the Twin Cities area and advocated for protecting reproductive rights.
