Alternate side parking to take effect in Mason City ahead of heavy snow

(ABC 6 News) – Alternate side parking and the Emergency Snow Route will go into effect at 7 p.m. in Mason City on Tuesday night ahead of forecasted snow.

Mason City announced the ordinance on Tuesday, and it will stay in effect until further notice.

During that time, cars must be parked on the odd numbered side of the street on odd numbered days of the month, and on the even side numbered side on even numbered days. Vehicles must be moved between 4-7 p.m. the night before.

Parking is prohibited on cul-de-sacs with consecutive numbers according to the schedule for the street it connects to.

Signs prohibiting parking on one side of a street will not be enforced, and alternate side parking requirements will not have effect on streets where parking is prohibited on both sides. They also do not apply to Highway 122 or 65 south of 8th Street South and north of Fifth Street North, nor to the business district.

No parking will be allowed on 2st Street NW from Monroe Avenue to Pierce Avenue, as it is part of the Emergency Snow Route.

More information about this ordinance can be found at Mason City’s website.
