(ABC 6 News) – Veterans in Albert Lea are working to enhance the Freeborn County Freedom Rock.
Back in November, Albert Lea American Legion Post 56 took it upon themselves to bring to town a Freedom Rock. Placing it next to the Albert Lea Veteran Memorial outside of the Government Center.
Now, they’re looking to add some star spangled colors to the rock. But they need the publics help to raise and estimated 25 to 30 thousand dollars to afford an artist to paint the rock, improve the landscaping and build a shelter for the rock.
Post 56 Rider, Scott Kallberg spoke about the importance of enhancing the rock during a city council meeting. Stating that the new addictions will make it a more desirable for tourists to come visit it.
“It’s going to bring people to the city,” Kallberg said. “People do go around and they visit these rocks. It’ll bring people and business to Albert Lea.”
Kallberg says the artist coming they plan to hire to paint the rock has already painted dozens in Iowa, Minnesota and Wisconsin.
The group hopes to raise enough money to have everything completed by the end of the summer.
