(ABC 6 News) — On Tuesday, news came out that a Rochester native just landed a big coaching role in the NHL.
Lourdes High School grad Mark Stuart was named an assistant coach by the Edmonton Oilers after playing in the league and then turning to coaching. As a defenseman, Stuart had tenures with the Bruins, Thrashers and Jets, racking up 26 career goals and 93 points overall.
Most recently, Stuart was an assistant at Colorado College, dating back to 2021 and before that, he spent a year on the Vermont Catamounts’ staff.
Stuart joins an Oilers crew that nearly made it to the Stanley Cup under interim coach Jay Woodcroft who was promoted full-time in February.
