(ABC 6 News) — The Stewartville Tigers have won their first-ever football State Championship, defeating Annandale in the Class AAA Title Game, 43-13 on Saturday.
Stewartville got on the board first with a touchdown pass from Ayden Helder to Carter Miller for 17 yards with 6:21 left in the first quarter.
Annandale countered with 1:45 in the first, Conner Lampi rushing in from a yard out for a Cardinals touchdown to tie the game at 7-7.
The game turned into a defense struggle afterward, the Tigers pulling ahead 14-7 off Miller’s first rush touchdown of the day with 4:04 before halftime.
The second half was a much different story, with Stewartville cracking the game open offensively in the fourth quarter.
Following another Miller rushing score in the third quarter, the Tigers clamped down on the Cardinals for three more touchdowns. Ayden Helder ran in from a yard out while Tegan Malone caught a 44-yard pass from Helder to put the game out of reach for Annandale.
