(ABC 6 News) — The wind is blowing, the killer soundtrack is blaring and Kingsland Football running back Beau Wiersma is showcasing his capabilities by taking the rock and rumbling to the endzone.
“O-line’s blocking really well, coach is calling great plays, obviously,” Wiersma said. “Reading the defense, reading what they’re doing, reading their keys. Cutting off them and just doing what I do best.”
It’s been a season to remember for Wiersma, he’s run roughshod over teams all season, including 254 yds and a season-best 4 touchdowns against Lyle-Pacelli on October 7.
“Three minutes into the first quarter, I had a 50-yard touchdown, that was a great play,” Wiersma continued. “Everyone did their jobs, everyone did their assignments and it came out as a touchdown. So that’s good to see on film.”
“Beau was reading off the cuts very well, er, off the blocks really well, making good cuts and seeing the field,” Knights head coach Matt Kolling noted. “It’s great when everything works together.”
Ever the humble junior, Wiersma’s influence is not lost on his teammates, from his dedication to his skill on the field.
“He just runs the football extremely hard, he never stops, no one can tackle him,” fellow running back Zach Rieland mentioned. “If it’s one person, he’s going to break it.”
Another Knights running back, Kaaleem Reiland, shared similar sentiments, “when people are doing bad, he always encourages them, makes everyone better on the team, not just himself.”
“That kid is definitely going to be something special in the future, so the coaches better watch out for him, that’s all I got to say.”
Wiersma’s also gone over 1,000 rushing yards and with two games to go, he’s shooting for 1,500. But the team comes first and getting into the playoffs strong is what really matters for a team player like Wiersma.
“I’m dedicated to this game, I love the game of football, I love my teammates, coaches, they make everything pleasing, it’s a great game.”
