Prep of the Week: Brody Josselyn
(ABC 6 News) — There’s a slew of scorers on Century/John Marshall Boys Hockey. But most of their goals don’t come without a timely assist. For the Panthers, that’s been the M.O. of Brody Josselyn.
“Just make the right play and let the forwards do the work,” Josselyn mused. “Go score goals and we’ll try to help too as a defenseman.”
“One of the things he’s really good at is getting the puck out of our zone in a hurry,” CJM Boys Hockey Co-Head Coach Matt Erredge assessed. “Whether that’s a quick break-up pass or off the glass and out for our guys to chase it.”
A defenseman who never settles for holding down the fort, his 8 goals and 24 assists are key factors in the Panthers owning one of the top offenses in the Big 9 Conference.
“I like to play defense, (it’s) fun to play defense,” Josselyn continued. “But fun to score goals and let other guys score too, so…”
The Panthers squad respects Josselyn and his skillset; including the John Marshall athletes on the team. This being the first season Century and JM are a co-op, the Rockets in this group are glad they no longer must play against Josselyn for a change.
“Yeah, it’s definitely more fun playing with him than against him,” forward Brock Clarey said. “I used to play with him in youth hockey but… You watch him play, he’s got really good patience with the puck and he makes good plays and he scores a lot of goals so he’s doing something right for sure.”
Josselyn has become invaluable to the Panthers’ attack. As the playoffs loom, Josselyn isn’t going to blink. He’s got four years of experience to know that the key to success is simplicity. Pass, snipe, celly.
“In this high school hockey coaching world, it’s really hard to find consistency,” Erredge noted. “But (Josselyn) brings that five-on-five, power play, penalty kill, he brings that consistency that you don’t find very often and he knows how to play and how this – what he needs to do help this team win.”
