Prep of the Week: Henry Tschetter
(ABC 6 News) — After a state championship season on the gridiron, the Stewartville Tigers have earned their stripes on the hardwood.
“Football shape and basketball shape are a lot different,” Henry Tschetter explains.
The senior multi-sport star and the Tigers are having a solid hoops season against some tough opponents.
“My confidence has grown year after year,” Tschetter continued. “I’ve got great teammates around me so they make it easy for me, we play as a team and it’s not really just one person.”
To Tschetter’s point, he’s far from the only firestarter on the Tigers; Parker Wangen and Teagan Malone come to mind. But Tschetter’s nearly 15 points a game during Stewartville’s current 6-game winning streak is a boon without question. Even more so in a competitive HVL Conference with Cannon Falls and Byron.
“Cannon Falls 10-3, turn around, you have Byron 14-1,” Tigers head coach Parker Lyga discussed. “The next week you have number three-ranked Lake City, I mean, it’s not a day off in this conference.”
But no days off is exactly what Tschetter is built for, proving it by passing the 1,000-point mark in early January.
“It makes it easy on a coach when those kids are putting in the extra hours and their commitment to the game and the overall program,” Coach Lyga said.
“Hank is a great teammate, Hank is great on and off the court in practice he gets it done,” Bancroft added, referring to Tschetter by his nickname. “His work ethic is amazing, he’s a great guy, the Tschetter family is awesome. They have been great to me since I’ve been here at Stewartville.”
The Tschetter family is active in all levels of Stewartville basketball with college, varsity, and the 9th grade squad.
“We are proud of — I’m coaching the 9th grade team,” Tschetter’s mother, Kasey Morlock effused. “I have a 9th grade son also and the senior. So yeah, we just really love basketball.”
Even in a busy household, Henry still finds ways to help dish assists to those around him.
“You know, Pete will always take Henry’s advice,” Morlock added. “Probably more than mine, right, with what he sees.”
For Tschetter, the support is felt from all over his family and his friends. As the Tigers vy for a return to the State Tournament, Tschetter’s skillset will keep him a crucial starter for Stewartville. He’ll continue to look out for his brothers on the court and at home.
“The players, the relationships and all that stuff has been great. And the friendships I’ve built, I’ll have them forever.”
