Prep of the Week: Macy Borowski

(ABC 6 News) — There’s one metaphor that describes Byron softball pitcher Macy Borowski and head coach Jason Harmon knows precisely what it is: Flip switch.

"She flips a switch and she’s ready to rock," Harmon said. "You can see it in practice, you can see it in game situations, you can see it when she moves from a position player to a pitcher. That’s probably what I appreciate the most out of her, is just – like, the gamer in her."

Borowski struck out 13 against Stewartville last Monday then fanned 12 this Monday versus Kasson-Mantorville. And that’s not even mentioning her consistency as a hitter.

"I feel like I made a big improvement hitting this year," Borowski surmised. "I worked a lot over the winter with my club team. I think that’s my biggest improvement this year. I did a lot of pitching and I got a lot of time this winter so that helped me a little bit too."

Not to mention, Borowski is epitomizing the term student-athlete with a near 4.0 GPA. Furthermore, she was recently accepted into the National Honors Society.

"Very special student as well, you know, getting it, getting it done in and out of the classroom," Coach Harmon agreed.

"If I have school work to work on, I do that first and then softball’s next," Borowski stated. "So, whenever I have softball, I make sure all my academics are done. If that’s a game, then I have to do academics afterwards, but it just is what it is."

As the season continues, Borowski is not content to rest on her laurels. The more she practices, the more her pitching speed improves. So, if it was tough to hit against now, the rest of Byron’s opponents haven’t seen anything yet.

"Working on weighted balls, getting all of the power out of my legs that I can to go forward," Borowski discussed. "The more speed I get the harder it is for hitters to hit against us. We have a lot to work on still obviously. Hopefully, we can do well at the end of the season."
