Cunningham makes case for U of M presidency
(ABC 6 News) – The University of Minnesota is still searching for its next president. All candidates are participating in forums at all five U of M campuses.
Wednesday, Dr. Rebecca Cunningham the VP of research at the University of Michigan spoke to a group of faculty and community leaders at UMR about her aspiration for Minnesota especially when it comes to making school accessible to everyone.

“And we try to make it obvious to every student across the communities especially our under-served communities that we are trying to reach that they know without any doubt they don’t have to worry about that sticker price. Which sounds terrifyingly scary,” said Cunningham.
She also addressed world issues like the war in Gaza, saying universities should respond and support student opinions.

“So, at the outset, free speech in academics has to be a core component of our values as a system. We have to be most emphatic about free speech when it’s free speech we don’t agree with because tomorrow we will be talking about free speech that somebody else doesn’t agree with,” said Cunningham.
