MN DOT prepares for winter snow
(ABC 6 News) – As winter approaches, the Minnesota Department of Transportation is in “ready mode” for chances of snow.
MnDOT is monitoring the weather, but for now they say the ground is still warm enough that any flakes that come down over the weekend probably won’t stick.
However in case it does, they’re prepared. They’ve been getting snowplows and salt ready since May.
Over 100 plows and trucks have gone through inspection to make sure they’ll be ready to go at a moment’s notice.
They advise drivers to start getting into winter driving mode now.
“If you do encounter snowplows, we recommend up to about ten vehicle lengths to follow behind, so give yourself lots of space. Those snowplows travel at 25-35 miles an hour,” said Mike Dougherty of MnDOT.
MnDOT is hiring snowplow operators. They have both temporary and permanent positions available in Southeastern Minnesota. You can apply on their website here.
