(ABC 6 News) – This weekend marks the start of the Monarch butterfly’s migration season and one local pre-school is getting the kids in on the fun.
Listos Preschool started Butterfly Fest in 2021 but had the festival in Peace Plaza last year due to a fire at Peace Church where the preschool is located.
The festival is a celebration of the Monarch’s migration from Minnesota to Mexico and the Mexican-American community in Rochester. This year is extra special to the staff and students as it marks a homecoming both for them and for butterflies.
“It’s really important to us that Listos has a strong community connection,” said Christina Valdez, executive director of Listos Preschool. “Because we need a full community for the students year-round. We really need a healthy environment for children to grow and flourish and to be able to fly.”
