SPARK teaches about different cultures with food
SPARK, Children's Museum continued their Kwanzaa celebrations on Wednesday by introducing children to a common link between cultures: food.
(ABC 6 News) – SPARK, Children’s Museum continued their Kwanzaa celebrations on Wednesday by introducing children to a common link between cultures: food.
Using Play Doh cookie cutters, children had the opportunity to learn how to make challah bread to highlight Hanukkah traditions, and gingerbread for Christmas traditions. As for Kwanzaa, kids played with corn, which was used to represent children and future generations.
“We wanted to focus on something that’s universal,” Said Makeila Nyman, the Education Coordinator at SPARK, “Because everybody celebrates different things, but something that is a commonality in all of those different celebrations is food.”
For safety reasons, children didn’t use real food during the activity, but they were given recipes to take home and try out with parental supervision.
